Soft toys are an integral part of our lives. Our children love to be friends and play with them; they can add home comfort to the apartment or be presented as a gift or souvenir to friends. The dry felting technique is a very easy and inexpensive way to create such beautiful and cute toys. And a one-of-a-kind exclusive craft made with your own hands will delight its happy owner.
Even a beginner can make a cute little thing. We will tell you how to please yourself and your loved ones with a figurine of the symbol of the year - a funny pig.
What you need for felting
To create a miniature, soft, pink pig, you will need the following.
- Wool. Naturally it should be special semi-fine wool for dry felting. New Zealand carded wool is especially popular among our needlewomen. You can buy it in a specialized store for needlewomen.
ADVICE! Choose a coat that is a nice pink color, not too bright and not too pale.To create a pig that is as close as possible to the real prototype, use several shades of beige for different parts of the animal’s body. This way the finished gift will not look pale and inconspicuous.
- Needle. It should also be for felting, of medium thickness. For small crafts, needles No. 36 or 38 are suitable.. Also purchase a reverse felting needle from a craft store.
- Eyes for crafts. These could be purchased eyes. You can make the pig brown-eyed or blue-eyed, all at your discretion. You can take the eyes from another old and torn toy that is no longer good for anything. You can buy polymer clay and create your own pig eyes. A you can simply attach beautiful buttons instead of ready-made eyes. This craft will look even more original.
- Foam sponge. To avoid losing or pricking a sharp needle, stick it into a foam sponge. We will also need it for felting small parts. This can be a clean sponge for washing dishes, a washcloth or a specialized pincushion.
- Glue for secure attachment of tail and eyes.
- Scissors for trimming excess hair.
- A piece of wire to form a curled tail.
Prepare everything you need in advance so that you don’t get distracted by little things during the creative process.
How to make a felted pig
Felling such a pig is very easy. In one evening you can create a cute pink gift for a child or an adult with your own hands.
The basis
- We tear off a piece of wool and making a barrel. Then we tear off another part, put the finished part there, twist it and continue felting. This will be the body and head of the pig.
- Divide the roller into 3 parts. We allocate 2/3 under the body, and 1/3 under the head. We form a recess - the neck and recesses - the eye sockets.
- We form a small piece under the snout, make holes for the spout and roll it onto the pig.
If you want to make the piglet even plumper, we roll down the cheeks and forehead.
Details
- We tear off pieces of wool and make triangles out of them. You will need two of them for the ears. We make them on foam rubber, cut off the unnecessary length and attach them to the head, slightly rounding them.
- Making legs. We tear off a piece of wool, fold it in half twice to create a recess - the hoof. We roll 4 of these legs to the pig.
- We attach another small piece to the back side to make it seem more plump and felt it.
Next we do tail. We cut off the wire; a piece of 5–8 cm is enough. We apply glue to it and, turning it, glue a thin layer of wool. Roll it a little and form a spring into several turns.
The final stage
- Now let's start fluffing the craft. Using a reverse needle, we pass over the finished pig, without pulling the wool too much, but also without leaving nailed spaces.
- We trim everything unnecessary on the pig short.
- Use scissors to make holes in the eye sockets, apply glue and insert eyes. There should be a little glue so as not to spoil the appearance of the craft. But not too little so that the eyes don’t fall off over time.
- We make a hole for the tail in the same way, roll it a little in a circle and glue it into its rightful place.
- If you wish, you can add a little decor for our pig. These can be various bows or flowers that can be attached near the ear, pendants and miniature scarves around the neck. Decorating a pig is limited only by your imagination.
