When the imagination already has an idea of the future product, start drawing the pattern. The first pattern can be drawn on plain paper. At this stage, the pattern is adjusted and “tried on” if necessary. Only the canvas is being built. If necessary, handles or a valve are added to the pattern.

Wool tends to shrink when felted. The shrinkage number is indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging. Therefore, the pattern is transferred to a dense material that does not deform during turning and manufacturing. A laminate underlay is ideal for this. When transferring, the pattern is increased evenly by the shrinkage number (about 30–40%).

You can immediately cut out the pattern for the handle, if it is separate, or for decorative parts.

If this is your first felting experience, then it is better to choose a simple option with rounded contours and a size of 30*30 cm, a button closure and a long sewing handle. Because the first time you may make mistakes with the size, so you shouldn’t start with a clutch.

When all the materials are ready, you can start felting!

  1. Bubble film is laid out on the surface of the table or floor, and on top is a pattern for the future product.
  2. If carded wool is used, then the method of horizontal and vertical felting is used. The wool is first laid out horizontally on the pattern. And then vertically. The number of layers depends on the desired density of the bag, but should be at least 4. The wool is slightly stretched when unfolded.
  3. Do not forget about allowances for the edges of the pattern by 1-1.5 cm.
  4. When the wool is laid out, begin felting. The surface is evenly moistened with a soap solution. There are several ways to dump. The first is to cover the workpiece with bubble wrap and go over it with a rolling pin or a high-pressure machine. Another option is to cover the workpiece with a net.
  5. Under no circumstances should GSOM squirm. Just put it on the surface, wait 10 seconds and move it to another place. In the case of a rolling pin, the movements should be confident, but not stretching.
  6. After this, the workpiece is turned over and the allowances are folded.
  7. Layers of wool are laid on top in the same sequence.
  8. The bag is moistened with soapy water and laid down. The felting process takes an average of 20 minutes on each side. At this stage, you can also add decorative elements.
  9. Next, the bag is rolled horizontally along with the film. In this case, you can use the handle of a shovel or other similar device. Roll 200 times, then unfold, twist vertically and roll again 200 times.
  10. The same is repeated on the other side.
  11. After such manipulations, the product noticeably decreases in size. It is cut at the opening, the pattern is pulled out and the shaping continues.
  12. Now pay attention to the sides. A massage brush or felting brush will come in handy here. Carefully pass along the ends and along the cut.
  13. The bag is rolled up again and rolled 100 times in each direction and on each side.
  14. When the handbag has reached the desired size, it is rinsed in water, shaped, ironed and left to dry.
  15. While the product is drying, they are making the handle. The process is similar to the process of creating the bag itself.
  16. The handle is lying around, rolled and washed. The dry handle is sewn on.
  17. After this, the clasp, the rest of the decor, the lining (if any) and the bag is ready!

Now all that remains is to come up with an image with her and go for a walk.
