If you want to look feminine and romantic, you should choose a dress made of thin material. Chiffon is an option. Translucent material will give the image lightness. You can sew a chiffon dress yourself.
Material selection
Chiffon is the finest fabric, ideal for summer clothing. And to make a chiffon dress with your own hands, you should arm yourself with some knowledge. First decide on a color. You can buy chiffon at any fabric store. As a rule, the choice of colors is wide. In addition to plain ones, there are canvases with prints, patterns, ornaments, and so on. It is better to identify several of the most desirable dress models before purchasing and make the final choice from there.
Product pattern
In order for everything to work out, you will need a dress pattern. It can consist of two parts, one for the bodice of the product, the second for the long skirt. First, take measurements, transfer the values onto paper, and everything from the pattern is transferred to the fabric.
Cut out several parts from paper, where one will serve as the front and the second as the back. The pattern should be symmetrical. To create a one-piece fabric piece, fold your material in two layers and place stamp paper on top. When you cut according to the pattern, be sure to back off a couple of centimeters, which are needed for the seams.
To create a skirt, that is, the lower part of the dress, you should prepare a rectangular piece of fabric. To calculate its width, your waist value should be increased by 3 times. The data you get will be equivalent to the average fullness of your skirt.
Chiffon dresses are sheer, so remember that you need to build a lining as well. Its length will be less than that of the main skirt. The edges should be machine stitched. Start sewing the product. Turn the piece inside out and sew a vertical stitch to join the edges of the skirt.
You will need an elastic band, which should be stretched at the waist and add another 3 cm to this length. Thread the elastic band through the belt. Because chiffon material is see-through, add several layers of fabric at the top of the skirt. Connect the ends of the elastic and secure it using an invisible hand stitch. The resulting dress model will look good both together and separately, like a skirt and bodice.
A few recommendations
Try to sew quite neatly. Otherwise, you may ruin the material and the work will be in vain. To cut the fabric, take a circular knife, and do it on the backing.
Paper patterns should be pinned only with sharp pins, otherwise even a small notch will damage the material. You can replace the pins with spray glue. The pattern should be placed on the fabric along the grain, and a small weight should be placed in the middle.Apply glue to the edges of the pattern and wait a little. Then the pattern must be pressed tightly to the material.
If you want to iron the material, do it dry. If liquid gets in, the fabric will begin to wrinkle. To avoid damage, check the iron to ensure there are no stains or unevenness on the surface.
The master class proved that sewing a chiffon dress with your own hands is quite simple. You will need a little time and the necessary set of tools for this. Sewing must be careful, because the material is quite light, and it will not be difficult to damage it.
