Siliconized padding polyester (or “silicone”) is known as “holofiber”. This is a non-woven synthetic material consisting of polyester fibers.
Origin story
In 1949, Russian scientists obtained polyester, on the basis of which they then began to produce silicone. The spiral-shaped fibers of this material are connected to each other by a thermal method, which gives an advantage in operation, in comparison with other materials, at low temperatures and high humidity. No glue is used in production, which is why it is hypoallergenic and wear-resistant.
Features of the composition of padding polyester with the addition of silicone
- moisture resistance;
- environmental friendliness;
- good sound and heat insulation;
- retains heat at low temperatures;
- hypoallergenic;
- hygiene;
- durability;
- softness;
- ease;
- does not deform, quickly takes on its appearance after compression;
- insects do not appear;
- does not absorb odors.
Main characteristics of the material
Silicone is a porous material. Its pores contain air, thanks to which it has good thermal insulation. For countries with cold climates, products with such filling will be a very good option for winter clothing. In such clothes, the price corresponds to the quality. The main thing is that when buying clothes, the choice falls on products with breathable outer material, otherwise the filler will also not allow air to pass through.
Advantages of silicone insulation over other types of thermal insulation materials (sintepon, natural down, synthetic down)
Synthetic winterizer: light, soft, but much inferior to siliconized synthetic winterizer. Sintepon has worse thermal insulation, and also absorbs moisture and odors. Glue is used in the production of padding polyester. Do not wash at high temperatures. Natural fluff: it clumps up when washed, can be an allergen, and penetrates through the fabric or seams. There may be insects. Synthetic down: with frequent washing, thermal insulation deteriorates.
What products are sewn using padding polyester with the addition of silicone fibers?
Pillows, blankets, mattresses, outerwear, toys, clothing for animals, upholstered furniture, and waterproof bags are made from this filler. Silicone is also used in construction in the form of slabs, which are good sound insulators and insulation materials.
Density of siliconized padding polyester for products for different weather conditions
- warm autumn - spring - 100 g/sq. m.
- cold spring - autumn, warm winter (lining - fleece) - 150 g/sq. m.
- cold winter (0, -20 degrees) 200 – 300 g/sq. m.
Features of silicone care
Does not require mandatory dry cleaning. It can be washed and soaked. But with frequent washing it may lose its shape. In this case, you need to remove it and comb it.
Wash
Hollow fiber can be washed in a machine at any temperature, by hand, without the use of chlorine-containing products. The washing mode is mainly selected taking into account the material of the top. When using regular powder, fibers may become clogged, so it is better to use liquid detergents for washing things. If the filling has become wrinkled, it is enough to wash the product in the washing machine with tennis balls.
The nuances of drying washed items
Siliconized synthetic padding dries quickly. It is enough to hang the washed down jacket over the bathtub on hangers. The washed pillow should be placed in a horizontal position and shaken periodically.
Product storage
There are no special instructions for storing silicone products. Remove stains and hang on a hanger. It is advisable not to use a vacuum storage method, as creases may form on the upper material.
