Cold viscose (Viscose Cold) is a knitted fabric or staple fabric produced in Italy, Poland, South Korea, which includes stretch. Thanks to this component, the fabric becomes elastic, stretches in length and width and is ideal for women's dresses, blouses, peignoirs, tunics, etc.
Composition and properties
Viscose is an unnatural fabric made from cellulose. It has been widely used in light industry for sewing women's dresses and men's shirts for more than a hundred years.
Stretch (from the English stretch - “stretch”) is a special material consisting of elastic synthetic fibers. In the production of cold viscose, lycra or elastane is most often used, constituting 2-3% of the fabric.
The connection of these two fibers gives advantages to both and eliminates their individual disadvantages.
Stretch when added to any other fabric (satin, denim, jersey, jacquard, etc.) makes it much more stretchable. There are fabrics in which stretch fibers make up up to 30% of the total composition.
Elastic fibers are added to the structure of cold staple viscose using the bi-stretch method, as a result of which it stretches both in length and width (lengthwise and crosswise). And the knitted version of this fabric stretches, thanks to the weaving of threads using the knitting method.
Advantages
Lycra or elastane add high wear resistance to the fabric and strengthen it. Cold viscose holds its shape much longer, does not fray, and is difficult to tear.
At the same time, despite the presence of an elastic synthetic thread, it retains all its natural properties and looks natural in appearance.
It should be noted that stretch adds not only elasticity, but also a special coolish shine, which is very beautiful.
The material is very pleasant to the skin, including in the summer heat. It is called that because it gives coolness to the body in intense heat.
This is not synthetic, but a natural fiber, but obtained artificially. Therefore, it does not irritate the body at all, allows it to breathe unhindered, and does not cause allergic reactions or irritations on the skin.
Thanks to the presence of lycra or elastane, cold viscose wrinkles little, drapes well, and therefore always looks impressive, as if from a picture from a fashion magazine.
IMPORTANT. You can forget about ironing while wearing dresses made from this material.
Flaws
It is necessary to strictly follow the instructions of the manufacturer of clothing made from this fabric, they can be read on the nameplate. This applies to washing and ironing, as the fabric may shrink over time if not properly cared for.
It should be washed with gentle washing powders, for example, for woolen fabrics or for children's clothes, and dried on a hanger or mannequin,
Knitted cold viscose - what kind of fabric is it?
This material also contains viscose and stretch, but its production uses a knitting technique. The knitted version is an excellent basis for various T-shirts, T-shirts, turtlenecks, etc.
Important! Cold viscose is superior to cotton and linen fabrics in many consumer qualities.
How is it different from traditional viscose?
The main disadvantage of 100% viscose is the rapid loss of strength when wet, so its main problem is washing. It is best to wash by hand. Cold viscose is much stronger and can be washed in a washing machine in the “Delicate Wash” mode.
Plain viscose wears out quickly, does not tolerate ultraviolet rays well, wrinkles heavily and loses its presentation, while cold viscose retains its external consumer qualities, wear resistance and strength several orders of magnitude longer.
Care
- ironing – iron at t up to 150 0 C;
- average cost - about 1,260 rubles. per linear meter with a canvas width of 160 cm (prices are current as of March 2017);
- tactility – the fabric is extremely pleasant to the touch (5 out of 5).
Cold viscose is an excellent choice for sewing summer dresses, blouses and shirts. It has an impressive appearance, excellent consumer qualities, a long service life and an affordable price accessible to people with budget incomes.
