For many years, artificial suede, if not displacing natural suede, then quite successfully coexists with it. This article will introduce you to this material and its properties.
What is faux suede called?
Often, faux suede is called “eco-suede,” using these two concepts as synonyms. However, this is not entirely true, they relate to each other according to the principle “all eco-suede is artificial, but not all artificial suede is eco,” that is, one is an integral part of the other. Therefore, artificial suede, unless we are talking about its environmentally friendly variety, is most correctly called that.
Its production is carried out using one of two methods:
- woven;
- non-woven.
Let's take a closer look at each of them.
The price of products produced by the first method is higher, which is compensated by higher quality. It consists in weaving a fabric from microfiber fibers, the threads of which are subsequently split into fibers of various lengths and thicknesses.The longer this processing takes place, the better the finished product.
The non-woven method consists of the following sequence of actions. First, synthetics, knitwear or a non-woven base are primed to level the surface and protect it from the effects of the adhesive. Then this composition is evenly distributed over the surface and finely chopped electrified fiber made of viscose, polyester or polyamide is sprayed onto it. The last step is Teflon impregnation to protect against moisture and dirt.
What is artificial suede, its features and advantages
It is a more budget-friendly alternative to the natural one, which, among other things, may please animal activists, since not a single animal died during its creation.
In many respects, it is no worse than natural, despite the fact that outwardly they are practically indistinguishable. The artificial analogue is no less pleasant to the touch, soft and velvety, but at the same time it is more durable and more resistant to wear, and does not wrinkle or fade.
Reference! This material is durable and has dirt- and dust-repellent properties, and is also capable of not absorbing moisture from the air and has a uniform color.
Artificial suede is successfully used as furniture upholstery, in a variety of clothing and shoes, as well as various accessories: bags, wallets and gloves.
