Suede is a rather capricious material that requires proper care. You also need to have a special approach to cleaning this material. You can't just wash it with water like regular leather. Our magazine will tell you how to do this correctly.
Basic rules for cleaning suede
The first rule has already been mentioned - less water. If a large amount of water gets in, the suede may become deformed.
Important! If possible, use only dry cleaning method.
When cleaning, also follow other rules:
- Dry the product before starting manipulations. Often, an item becomes dirty when exposed to rain; in this case, the item must be thoroughly dried away from a heat source. When wet cleaning, you can skip this step.
- It is advisable to clean the surface with a soft brush. You can also use special brushes of different hardness or a rubber eraser.
- If there is a stain on the product, it must be cleaned from the outside in. This way it won’t spread and won’t leave streaks, which are very visible on white suede.
- Your hands must be clean, otherwise you may create another stain. If these are shoes, be sure to wash the soles, otherwise the dirt will transfer to the suede and stain it.
- Do not use harsh chemicals.
Taking into account the above rules, you can get to work and figure out what means you can clean white suede.
How to properly clean white suede
We will divide the tools available in our arsenal into two categories - improvised and special. It is better to have professional suede care products at home. They can usually be purchased at suede stores or specialty departments. But sometimes there aren’t any, and you have to use what’s at hand.
Important! Be sure to purchase special care products for suede products.
Professional cleaning products for white suede
First, about the tools you need to have in your arsenal:
- a special brush for cleaning suede;
- eraser for cleaning nubuck and suede products;
- spray paint;
- water repellent spray.
These products will help you with daily care and cleaning. With their help you can remove:
- Dry dirt (especially shoes). To do this, you need to use a rubber or stiffer brush. Then comb the pile with the soft side.
- Entrenched dirt. An eraser will help with this. Rub it on the stain in one direction and the dirt will roll off. Next, go over with a brush.
- Old stains. Those stains that cannot be cleaned can be painted over with special paint for suede.
But if you don’t have such products at hand or you don’t trust professional skin care, considering it a waste of money, use traditional methods.
Cleaning white suede at home
There is even more choice here than in professional products. The following options can be distinguished from those at hand.
- Vinegar or citric acid will help get rid of salt stains and wax stains. It is necessary to mix this component with water 1:1 and wipe with a cloth slightly moistened in this solution.
- Starch or baby powder will remove greasy stains of any complexity. To remove a greasy stain, you need to sprinkle the area with starch and leave it for a while (from 5 hours to a day, depending on the complexity of the stain), then wipe it off with a brush. If necessary, repeat the procedure.
- Ammonia and milk. This product works great on a variety of white-based stains. Add a few drops of ammonia to the milk and stir. Soak a rag in the solution and wipe the problem area.
- Hydrogen peroxide and water. Mix the ingredients in equal proportions and wipe the stained area. Peroxide has bleaching properties, making it good for fighting dark and old stains.
- Eraser. It is not necessary to buy a special eraser; you can use the regular school version. But it must be white, otherwise it may leave colored stains.
If your product has contamination that cannot be addressed by any of the listed remedies, take it to a workshop, and they will tell you what can be done about this problem. Usually the skin area is replaced.
