Suede shoes are considered one of the most expensive. But as soon as a greasy stain appears on it, the shoes lose their original appearance. There is no need to be upset about this. We provide several quick ways to remove grease stains from suede that spoil the appearance of your shoes. The main thing is to apply all procedures on time, and not put them on the back burner or for later.
Effective ways to remove grease stains from suede
- Table vinegar. Dilute 1 to 10 and wipe the stain with the resulting ready-made solution. Then simply leave until the suede is completely dry.
REFERENCE: Don't rub too hard. Movements must be carried out carefully and gently so as not to spoil the structure of the delicate tissue.
- Regular table salt. Heat the salt in a frying pan and pour it into a cloth bag. Then, apply a bag of hot salt to the greasy stain and hold until the salt cools completely. Then we change the bag and pour out the hot salt again. We carry out the procedure until the fat is completely absorbed into the bag.
ATTENTION: This method is considered the most effective, which does not spoil the structure of suede fabric.
- Lemon acid. In 50 ml of cool water, dilute a pack of citric acid. Dampen a piece of cloth and begin cleaning the stain in a circular motion, replacing a new section of the cloth each time.
REFERENCE: Once the surface is clean, leave it to dry naturally.
- Toothpaste. Apply a thin layer to the stained surface and leave to dry. Next, simply use a simple school eraser to remove any remaining toothpaste.
- Hot baking soda can clean and absorb oil stains if left on the surface for 15 minutes. Next, wipe off with a dry cloth and, if necessary, sprinkle the desired area again.
REFERENCE: This method is suitable for cleaning light-colored suede materials.
Store-bought and homemade products for cleaning suede from greasy stains

Separately, dilute 5 ml of dishwashing detergent in 50 ml of water and stir until foam is obtained. Then apply to the desired area and leave for 10 minutes. Wipe with a wet cloth. Use a dry cloth to collect any remaining residue. Leave to dry naturally.
- Ammonia and baking soda. For 100 ml of water, add 10 drops of ammonia and 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Mix the mixture thoroughly and apply to shoes, leaving for 20 minutes. Next, remove the residue with a dry cloth and dry.
ATTENTION: Do not wear shoes for 24 hours.
- Ethanol. Buy ethyl alcohol at a regular pharmacy and dilute it 1 to 10. Apply the resulting solution to the greasy stain and leave for 10 minutes, then rub the stained surface and dry thoroughly.
ATTENTION: Keep cleaning away from small children who are too curious about these activities.
- Potato starch. Sprinkle potato starch on top of the damaged area. Place a piece of porous paper on the sprinkled surface and press it down with a weight.
ATTENTION: First, insert a paper roller into the shoes, which will not allow them to change shape when pressed by weight from above. Leave for a couple of hours, then use a special brush to sweep off any remaining starch.
REFERENCE: If necessary, repeat the process again until the grease stains are completely gone.
Useful tips on how to remove grease stains from suede shoes
- Before you start removing grease stains, we recommend letting the suede dry first. The material should dry on its own, without intervention or the use of hair dryers, electric dryers and batteries.
ATTENTION: Wet material should not be cleaned with a brush, because the fibers of the fabric will receive significant damage, which will lead to a spoiled appearance.
- Clean off any dirt and dust particles that may have entered. This should be done on dry material, and only then remove greasy stains.
- We recommend testing any selected product on a small area of the material, and only then applying it to the entire surface. This is required so as not to accidentally spoil the material.
- Do not press too hard on the brush when cleaning. Small fibers can become damaged and give the product an old look.
- When using store-bought products, we recommend that you carefully study the instructions provided during use in order to avoid unforeseen circumstances.
ADVICE: New shoes should be treated with a special purchased protective solution, which will help prevent the surface from being damaged by external factors.
