Knitting is a fun, relaxing activity. The variety of techniques, patterns, yarns and various master classes only increases interest in this type of needlework. Brioche is one of the newest knitting techniques. Most often it is used to create spectacular and unusual convex patterns.
Features of the brioche technique
The basis of the knitted fabric in this technique is an ordinary English (patent) elastic band, but with minor changes. With the help of decreases and increases in certain loops, patterned lines are created, and the pattern itself is limited only by flights of fancy and the level of knitting skills.
Thanks to the alternation of two threads, knitting has no wrong side: the pattern looks the same on both sides, the only difference being the color. Fabrics knitted using the brioche technique are distinguished by good elasticity, which allows you to knit hats, berets, snoods, scarves and other wardrobe items.
How to knit using the brioche technique
To knit using this technique you will need:
- Yarn in the required colors;
- Knitting needles with fishing line of the required size;
- Scissors.
Important! It is necessary to select yarn of the same size with an identical or similar composition, otherwise the knitting will not be even enough and will lose its aesthetics.
The algorithm for knitting fabric is as follows:
- We cast on the knitting needles an odd number of loops of the first color. We remove the edge stitch, knit the second stitch, then yarn over and remove the next stitch after it on the right needle without knitting. We knit one knit stitch again and alternate to the end of the row. The last stitch in each row is a purl stitch.
- In the second row it is necessary to introduce a second color into the work. We turn the product over and knit the edge loop with a new color. Yarn over and carry over to the next stitch. We pick up the third, formed by the yarn over on the previous row, together with the fourth and knit it into one knit stitch.
- We move the fabric from one knitting needle to another in order to continue knitting with the thread of the first color. We remove the edge loop, purl the second loop together with the yarn over. Yarn over and slip off the next stitch again. We repeat the algorithm until the end of the row.
- Both threads ended up on one side of the fabric, which means it is necessary to turn the work over. We perform the fourth row with a thread of the second color. Slip off the first stitch, yarn over and slip off the next one. Next, we knit the yarn over together with the loop.
- Move the knitting again to the other end of the knitting needles. Remove the edge yarn over and make a knit yarn over with a loop. Next comes the yarn over, and remove the loop behind it. We finish again with a purl edge.
Next, it remains to repeat the pattern from the second to the fifth row. The brioche pattern is ready.
