What is a hoop?

How many things do you need to buy to start embroidery? The canvas alone will take kilometers, as will the floss, and I’m not talking about beads at all. But if these are all consumables, then there are items that you buy once and always use. I mean the hoop. How... you don’t know what it is and why? This is in vain, because without this thing it is difficult to achieve accurate work. In addition, the hoop greatly facilitates and speeds up the embroidery process, but more on that below.

Hoops for needlework: definition and varieties

The main function of this tool is considered to facilitate the embroidery process. The hoop stretches and holds the fabric so that working becomes much easier. With them you don’t have to worry that the pattern will turn out crooked or the stitching will be tight. The tool is suitable for both cross stitch and satin stitch, and when working with beads, a hoop is absolutely irreplaceable. Thanks to them, the finished picture turns out smooth and neat, without overstretched areas.

It’s impossible to say what the hoop looks like in one word. This is because today this attribute, necessary for the embroidery process, is produced in several varieties.

Round

They are considered the most common and universal type. They are two rings of different sizes with or without a fastening mechanism. Dimensions may vary depending on the diameter of the rings and the thickness of the rims. The first parameter is selected according to the embroidery format, the second - at your discretion. If you are comfortable keeping ones that are too thin, buy them. When you need a thicker rim, you can choose the maximum thickness (2.5 cm). As for materials, round hoops can be made of wood, metal, and plastic. The most comfortable and durable are those made from natural material.

Hoop

Square and oval

They differ from the first variety only in their shape. In all other respects they completely agree. Many embroiderers even like this hoop more than round ones. They find them more convenient and practical.

Hoop

Sofas

They look like a regular embroidery frame attached to a stand on a long leg. It is convenient to place them next to you while working on a bed, chair, sofa or table. Your hands are completely freed.

Hoop

Framework

They are attractive because they have a loop with which you can hang the finished work on the wall. Can be oval, rectangular or round. Most often made of wood.
