Real needlewomen who sew know how quickly the house is filled with various accessories. Spools of thread are usually placed in shoe boxes, tea boxes and other accessible containers. But this way they only get confused with each other. Each sewing session has to begin with unraveling the desired color.
How to organize the storage of spools of thread?
The easiest way to ensure order is to purchase an organizer. Can buy it in the store at a very affordable price, however, it is much more interesting to make it yourself from scrap materials.
With this device, the threads will be sorted by color and placed as neatly as possible, without tangling.
Types of thread organizers
There are several types of storage space. They are made from various materials, and each needlewoman must choose the best and most convenient option:
- Hanging with pockets. The ideal way would be an organizer made of transparent plastic with zippers or rivets. It allows you to see the contents of each pocket and easily get what you need. If fabric is used for sewing, come up with tags that describe everything that is stored in the compartment.
- Shelf or stand. Open panel with spool holders. Suitable for needlewomen who sew for a long time and often change colors. In the case of a rare hobby, the coils will become covered in dust and dirty.
- Box or crate. Inside, holders or compartments separated by partitions are used. It is convenient to store a small amount of thread, protecting it from dust and dirt.
- Functional organizers. Holders in the form of open boxes with small shelves and holes for coils. They are easy to use without even removing the thread from its intended slot.
Making an organizer is not difficult. The main thing is to wisely choose the type that will be most convenient to use.
How to make an organizer with your own hands?
It's worth trying to make a container yourself. Different materials may be required. Many master classes do not take more than 5–10 minutes, so making a thread holder is easy:
- From a cookie box. A good option for storing a small number of reels. All you need is a tin box, thick paper and tape with scissors. Place the first row of threads, then make a circle out of cardboard and secure it with masking tape. Place in a box, separating the rows of threads from each other. Next, we proceed in the same way, reducing the diameter of the circles.
- From a plastic bottle. A very simple storage method that gives access to 14 spools with the ability to use thread without removing it from the organizer. First, cut the sides of the bottle with a hot knife, leaving the bottom and neck intact. We put seven coils inside and make a hole opposite each one.We insert sections of cocktail tubes into them. We do the same on the opposite side of the bottle. For ease of use, you can make holes and bring the ends of the thread through them.
- From a plastic container. You will need two pieces of cardboard to fit the size of the tray, as well as self-tapping screws with dowels and an awl. First, cut out the cardboard, then make holes with an awl and thread the screws, and then put the dowels on them. The distance between the holders is 3 cm. Finally, we attach the cardboard to the bottom of the tray and install the coils.
Please note that in stores, thread organizers cost from 250 to 25,000 rubles, if we are talking about professional stands. It’s much easier and cheaper to make holders from scrap materials yourself, which every housewife will probably have.
