Shortly before the New Year, adults and children enjoy making snowflakes. If you're tired of paper crafts, you can make this mandatory New Year's attribute using threads. Snowflakes turn out so beautiful that they can decorate the interior not only during the winter holidays.
You can make two types of snowflakes from woolen threads: voluminous and flat. To do this, you will need threads, cardboard rings (the size of future snowflakes), decorative items, and scissors.

You are unlikely to use a paper snowflake anywhere other than on a New Year tree. But with a product made from knitting threads you can decorate the interior not only during the New Year holidays, but all year round.
They can be hung on curtains, selected by color. Even a wall in a children's room will look much more fun with such pendants. Young children, especially girls, will be able to use these products during their mother-daughter games.If you make large snowflakes, you can replace sofa cushions with them.
What do we need
Before you start, you should prepare everything you need:
- woolen threads, preferably white or blue, wound into small balls;
- two cardboard rings of the same diameter;
- small sharp scissors.
How to do
Let's consider several options.
Snowflake made from pompom
Depending on the size of the future product, cut out two identical circles from cardboard, for example, with a diameter of 18 cm, and make 6-centimeter holes in the middle of each. Lay the thread on the bottom ring in a circle, tying the ends once (no need to make a knot). Cover the structure with a second ring on top, making sure that both ends of the thread stick out.
Now start wrapping the rings with thread from the ball. Make sure they fit snugly against each other. It’s okay if the threads overlap on the inner diameter side. The main thing is not to leave any gaps!
You won't be able to use a large ball because it won't fit through the hole. But it's not scary. When the first ball is finished, continue working with the second. Having finished the first row, you can go around the second circle with threads - in this case, the finished product will look more magnificent.
Now is the crucial moment. Using small scissors, cut the threads along a large diameter, running the blade between the rings. Just be careful not to cut the two ends that we left for tying.
After cutting, slowly and very carefully pull together the two loose threads. Now the rings can be removed, and the threads for tying can be secured with a knot. We got a real pompom. But we need a snowflake, so we continue to work.
Straighten the threads the way they looked on the cardboard rings. Divide them into eight strands, first dividing them in half, then each half in half again, and each quarter in half as well. Tie each resulting ray crosswise. All that remains is to align the edges of the snowflake, and the product is almost ready.
If you made a large snowflake, then each of the eight rays can be divided into two more halves and tied with threads. You will get an additional row of 16 rays.
All that remains is to attach a thread to hang the snowflake on the tree or on a hook. And if you want to tinker a little more, you can do some applique - glue on the eyes and mouth. The spout can be made from a small uncut pompom by inserting it inside the structure before tightening it with threads. Now you have a fun toy that can be decorated with eyes, beads, etc.
Flat snowflakes
Such products will look great on the window. Draw a template on a piece of paper. Just choose a pattern so that all elements are closed. Cover the drawing with cellophane or file. Now lay out a thick woolen thread along the translucent outline. To prevent the thread from slipping off the pattern, you can pre-moisten it with glue. While the PVA is still wet, sprinkle the craft with glitter.
Now fill the entire interior space with the same glue and leave until completely dry. Then carefully remove the snowflake from the cellophane. If you want the snowflake to be blue rather than white, then add a little gouache to the glue before pouring it.
