Methods for sewing sequins by hand

How to simply sew sequins with a regular open seam (4 or 2 stitches)

A needle and thread with a knot is threaded through the wrong side of the garment in the place where the sequin will be placed.
The sequin is put on a needle, the thread is pulled so that it does not remain between the sequin and the product.
The needle is inserted into the fabric just behind the outer edge of the sequin and brought out again in the center, the first stitch is ready.
To secure, the needle is moved to the edge opposite to the stitch made.
If necessary, perform 2 more stitches.
After completing the last stitch, the thread is secured on the wrong side with a knot. For reliability, you can make several knots.

How to sew sequins in a decorative way

The technique for performing the decorative method remains the same as when performing the usual version. The decorative fastening differs from the usual one in the number of stitches. When making such a seam, you can choose denser threads or fold thin threads several times. The decorative method provides more options for choosing the color of the thread. Not only a color that matches the sequins is suitable, but also a contrasting one. It looks interesting to use threads of different colors on sequins, which will make the pattern brighter.

Procedure:

Sew the sequins in the usual way using 4 stitches.
Sew an additional 4 stitches, placing each additional stitch between existing ones.

How to sew sequins with a closed seam using beads

Sequins can be sewn on in another way, in which the thread will not be visible - with a closed seam. This option requires beads. Each bead becomes an additional decoration.

Procedure:

A needle and thread with a knot attached are threaded from the wrong side of the fabric in the place where the decorative detail needs to be attached.
The glitter is strung on a thread.
A bead is placed on a thread over the sequins.
The needle is inserted into the center of the sequin from the front side, securing the beads.
The thread is secured from the inside with two knots.

Types of seams for sewing on a row of sequins

When decorating clothes, there is often a need to attach more than one sequin, but to connect them in a continuous row. In this case, the use of different types of seams is practiced.

Sewing sequins using a back stitch

Sequins located nearby can be sewn back with a needle.

Procedure:

A needle is used to pierce the fabric from the inside out in the place where the row of sequins should begin. From the inside, the thread is secured with a knot.
The first glitter is put on the thread.
The needle is inserted into the fabric directly behind the sequin, to the right of its center.
From the wrong side, the needle is brought to the surface at a distance equal to half the glitter.
Place a second sequin on the thread, which should lie next to the first.
The needle is brought back to the right and the fabric is pierced between the 1st and 2nd sequins.
The needle reaches the surface of the fabric at a distance equal to 0.5 times the width of the glitter.
The third sequin is threaded onto the thread.

Further work continues in a similar way.This results in a row of sequins appearing on the fabric, each with one open stitch to the right of the center.

Sewing sequins with a continuous seam

You can make the open stitches continuous if desired. For this, a “back needle” stitch is used.

Procedure:

After stringing the 1st sequin, a back stitch is made.
From the wrong side, the needle is brought to the surface of the fabric on the left side of the glitter and the material is pierced again in the center.
To attach the second sequin, the needle comes out to the surface of the product to the left of the first sequin. Between its left edge and the puncture there should be a distance equal to 0.5 of the width of the glitter.
When sewing the seam back, attach the right side of the sequin.
Bring the needle out to the left and make another stitch, piercing the fabric in the center of the decoration.

The work is repeated until the required “shiny” strip is created, attached to the product with continuous stitches.

Sewing on sequins with a hidden seam

Decorative details can be placed on clothes so that the threads are not visible. It will be possible to hide them if the sequins overlap each other.

Advice! For a hidden seam, it is better to choose a thread of a color that is least noticeable against the background of the decoration details.

Procedure:

The tip of the needle pierces the fabric near the first sequin, and then goes back and pierces the material in the center of the sequin. As a result, the first piece of decoration appears on the clothing, secured with a stitch on the left.
The needle is brought to the surface of the fabric to the left of the first sequin (at a distance equal to half of it). Then a backstitch is made, whereby the needle is passed through the hole of the second sequin before piercing the material. It lies on the product, covering the stitch on the first sequin.

Further work is carried out in the same order, filling the necessary space on the clothes.
