Flowers have been present in human life and creativity for centuries. Floral patterns are used to decorate homes, dishes and clothing; they are forged from metal, carved from wood, depicted on canvas, woven from beads, even in the music of composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Art seems to give them a new, long life. Magazines about home economics are replete with various guides on beading, floristry, and making flowers from a wide variety of materials. Today, many are interested in creating masterpieces of floristry using sequins.
What materials and tools will be needed to make flowers from sequins and beads
Let us immediately explain briefly what sequins are. This is a small flat or raised shiny scale in the shape of a circle or polyhedron. The sequin has a hole for thread to attach it to fabric or some other material.
To make artificial flowers, trees and plants using sequins and beads, you will need the following tools and accessories:
- Sequins.
- Beads according to the diagram.
- Copper or aluminum wire.
- Scissors.
- Wire cutters and pliers.
Types and methods of weaving used in making flowers
Volumetric weaving (column)
This type of weaving is one of the simplest, perfect for beginners, and should be mastered first. First, two beads are strung on the wire, followed by a sequin of the same color. Then again two beads and so on, gain the required length, after which the wire is twisted with pliers 2-3 turns.
How to make a corner, central and duplicate strip
The corner technique is used to form petals. To make a corner, you need to assemble a flat strip from the required number of elements. The loose ends are then twisted near the bottom of the last element.
Then the required number of sequins is strung, one of the ends of the wire is pulled up through the beginning of the weaving, fastening the sides end-to-end.
A flat strip is made like this: a sequin is strung on the wire with the front side, and placed in the middle of the length with the back side facing you. Then it is fastened by twisting it one turn, and the next sequin is put on one of the ends of the wire with the front part - position it so that it covers the seam and secure it with the second end of the wire. Thus, a strip of the required length is formed. If the elements are positioned correctly, the seam should not be visible.
To form a median line in large petals in order to close the empty space in the middle, additional weaving is done with a flat line, and they start from the base to the top, and vice versa. The wire is attached to the center of the line forming the petal, and the midline is woven. One of the ends of the wire of the strip forming the petal is inserted into the first element, and then twisted with pliers.
A duplicating strip is used to close gaps in the petal. It is made two elements shorter than the main line. They start from the second element and end at the penultimate one. In the middle, both lines connect to each other. One of the ends of the wire on the wrong side of the duplicate line covers the broach in the petal, then it is returned to its old place, and the weaving continues.
Important! No need to twist the wire too much!
How to make flowers from sequins and beads
Stages of making chamomile: petals, flower, sepals, leaves
To form a flower we proceed as follows. Cut a piece of wire 30 cm long and string two white beads and a white sequin onto it. We form a chain consisting of such 16 sequences, ending it with beads. We twist the wire 7–9 turns from left to right, we get a petal. We form five such petals. We connect the resulting petals and twist them together, also 7–9 turns from left to right.
To make the center of the flower, 13 orange beads are strung on a wire. One of the ends is threaded through the eighth bead, and the whole thing is tightened with a ring. Next, a large central bead is strung on one end, the second one is also threaded through it and twisted 7–9 turns. After this, the middle is connected to the petals.
To make a sepal, take 17 green beads and string them on a 30 cm long wire. The leg is formed 6 cm from the edge by twisting three turns. After 2 mm, a second loop is formed, a total of six of them are made. Then the sepal is connected to the flower, and the stem is wrapped with green floral ribbon.
To form leaves, 13 green beads are strung on a 35-centimeter wire, then it is bent in the middle and twisted into three turns. The long part is bent, the same number of beads are strung, and a loop is formed on the stem. On the other side, do the same, after which the leaves are connected to the stem. Chamomile is ready.
Making a rose
The rose has three rows of petals.
First row: 3 convex petals are made under the middle bud. Using the flat line casting method, six dark-colored sequins are cast onto a 25-cm wire, then five light ones. On the third element, the line is turned and six dark-colored sequins are added again. The ends of the wire are not twisted together. The center is drawn from top to bottom, first two light, then five dark elements. The petals of the bud are made in random order.
Second row - 5-6 petals are woven. They straighten out, then place them in a fan shape around the bud, with the concave part towards the center, and fasten them several turns.
For the third row you will need seven petals with a duplicate line.
The outer part of the petal is drawn according to this pattern – 8 dark, 5 light, 8 dark – this is a straight line. Duplicate stripe on an additional piece of wire – 4 dark, 4 light, 4 dark elements. After the second element of a light shade, connect an additional line and the outer part of the petal in the middle. Twist a couple of turns and the second part of the petal is made.
When assembling, the petals from the third row are placed arbitrarily with either side facing the bud; depending on this, the flower will be either fully or half bloomed.
The leaves are made according to the above scheme of arbitrary size and shape.
