Crochet plush yarn toys

Plush yarn is very popular among needlewomen. Pleasantly soft to the touch and serves as an excellent material for making cozy clothes, bedding accessories and children's toys. Thanks to its structure, plush yarn makes the knitting process easy and fast, so it is used with pleasure by both experienced and beginner knitters.

The composition of plush yarn is most often specified as 100% micropolyester. And the structure is represented by a central thread, around which a velvet and thick pile is wound. The base is easily dyed, so the color palette of threads is very wide.

Micropolyester does not cause allergies, which makes it possible to use it to create children's products.

Plush yarn is produced by many manufacturers; the market offers products from companies such as Alize, Etrofil Yonka, Koala Baby, Nako Paris, Himalaya Dolphin Baby, Adelia Dolly, Dolche and others.
How to make large and small crochet toys from plush yarn.

Children love toys made from plush yarn. They are pleasant to the touch, warm and soft. They are easy to knit and crochet. When creating a product, there are several important points to consider:

  • Tool size. It is most convenient to use hook No. 4, 5 or 6. Using smaller sizes may result in the fabric becoming stiff.
  • Avoid loosening of the base. Because when unraveling, lint may fall off the yarn, and it will become thin and stiff.
  • When adding filler, the main thing is not to overdo it. Excessive amounts can stretch the toy's body and deform its limbs.
  • The parts can be connected using a hook or a thick needle with a large eye. The thread for stitching is taken from a common skein. The tension should be medium to hold the parts of the product together, but not create unnecessary creases.
  • It is better to embroider the face of a toy with smaller threads.
  • For one product, it makes sense to use skeins of yarn from the same batch, because the quality in different ones may differ from each other.

ATTENTION! Some types of yarn cannot be used in making products for children under 3 years of age. For example, Dolche yarn, since lint can easily fall out of it during use.

To make any toy, you must have the following tools:

  • Plush or velor yarn of different thicknesses, 1 skein each.
  • Hooks of the required sizes, usually used from No. 4 to 6.
  • Scissors.
  • Filling, for example, holofiber or synthetic fluff.
  • Beads or eyes.
  • A needle with a large eye and a needle for small details and embroidery.
  • Threads for joining parts and embroidery.
  • Markers for knitting - rings. With their help, it is convenient to mark places on the fabric where changes occur (increasing/decreasing loops, beginning of knitting, etc.).
  • You may need accessories for decoration: ribbons, rhinestones, etc.

Abbreviations used for descriptive diagrams:

  • CA – amigurumi ring
  • Sbn (Sb/n) – single crochet chain
  • CCH – double crochet chain
  • Mon – half double crochet
  • VP - air loop
  • SS – connection column
  • Ub – decrease
  • Etc – addition
