What can you knit using grass yarn?

What kind of yarn is grass?

Yarn “Travka” has a pile length from 0.5 to 5 cm or more. It is made of polyester or other materials with the addition of lurex and metallic. Wide range of colors, silky and soft to the touch. It can be used for knitting children's and adult clothing, both in general and for finishing details. Grass toys, blankets and much more are very beautiful and fluffy. If you choose the right color, the product looks rich and expensive. - sparkling frost on the branches, young spring grass, or precious fur on the shoulders.

Things knitted from “Travka” look elegant and elegant, but are not intended for everyday use.

Even a novice craftswoman can work with such threads.Their advantage is that if somewhere there is an uneven row, due to the long pile, all errors will be hidden.

Features of knitting from grass

Grass yarn is versatile and can be knitted, crocheted, or even machine knitted. Its originality lies in the following points:

At first glance, knitting with “Grass” seems complicated and inconvenient; the pile will interfere with knitting, but following simple rules will bring great pleasure from the work:

1. When knitting, the long pile is located along the thread from left to right. When you buy a skein, it lies on the thread from right to left; this can be corrected by rewinding the ball or pulling the tip out of the middle.
2. When knitting the loops are almost invisible, you have to be very careful not to lose them. At first it seems difficult, but with experience it becomes easy and fast.
3. To make the fabric more dense and maintain its shape and size, an additional thread is added to the “Grass”, matching the color; it can be cotton or thin wool yarn.
4. The “Grass” finish on products made from any other materials looks original.

What things can be made from it?

Things made from grass turn out to be fluffy and voluminous, for example, scarves, stoles, shawls, insert elements, binding of collars, pockets, sleeve cuffs and any other decorative inserts into the finished product. But children's clothing is especially unusual; in it, little fidgets seem like fluffy balls; suits, fur coats or hats look simply amazing.

After finishing knitting, be sure to comb the product with a large brush, all the pile will be released, the item will look beautiful and neat.

How to knit a boa from this yarn?

One of the fashionable accessories for women is a boa - a long narrow scarf made of fur or feathers, and it can also be knitted from Grass. Its length reaches two meters, but it is knitted simply and quickly. To do this you need:

• yarn “Grass” - 70–80 g. The composition is selected at will, for example, 50% polyester, 50% lurex, the color of the thread is the same;
• knitting needles - No. 5–7, depending on the density you want.

Determining density

This is a scarf, you don’t need measurements for it, cast on the knitting needles a certain number of stitches, the width you want, the density will depend on the thickness of the knitting needles, knit with garter stitch. Boa scarf size: width – 8–10 cm, length – 180–200 cm.

Most women dream of adding an unusual item to an evening outfit or office dress; a cool solution is a delicate, soft and fluffy bolero. Knitting it with knitting needles with your own hands will not be difficult. To make sizes 44–46 you need:

• yarn – 200 g;
• knitting needles – circular No. 5, straight – No. 5;
• markers.

We will knit in two stages, with one fabric.

How do we knit?

The work is done according to the pattern. The raglan lines of the sleeves are marked in red. The diagram shows the dimensions.

First stage

Cast on 56 stitches on the needles. We divide them into 3 parts: two for the sleeves (24 loops), 28 loops for the back, 4 on the raglan line.The product is knitted in stockinette stitch:

Row 1 – all knit stitches: 1 knit stitch, marker, 12 p., marker, 1 knit, marker, 28 p., marker, 1 knit, marker, 12 p., marker, 1 knit.

Row 2 – purl. Purl all stitches, yarn over, knit with a crossed loop so that there are no holes.

In each front row, before and after the marker, a yarn over is made. On the extreme lines of the raglan yarn over only after the marker. When the length of the raglan line is 25 cm or more (depending on individual measurements), you can close the loops.

Second phase

On circular knitting needles, along the bottom of the product (shelves, back, neck), we cast on loops and make a binding. In each odd row we add 6-8 loops, distributing them evenly throughout the knitting. This is how 15-17 cm are knitted, the loops are loosely closed, the method is to choose the one that is convenient for you.
