Knitting or crocheting things is an interesting and creative process. Products created in this way are usually distinguished by their attractiveness - they exude warmth and comfort. But there is one detail that can ruin the appearance of even the most carefully knitted sweater or dress - uneven seams. To prevent this from happening, it is important to master in advance the technique of connecting fragments using thread and needle.
How to sew knitted items with a needle?
Technician allowing connect parts together There are a lot of similar products. Experienced craftswomen can even come up with something exclusive. But it is important for beginners to know the basics, which we will try to show them. Such seams are considered the simplest and most frequently used.
“Loop to loop” with open loops
It involves connecting parts of the finished item in such a way that the loops go end-to-end. The needle and thread are inserted into the first outer loop of the lower part and passed into the same one located at the top. Then the thread is pulled into the next loop. After this, the needle is pulled through the loop of the lower part and taken out into the next one.
Mattress seam
This technology helps connect the side seams or sleeves together. The parts of things must be placed “face” to the top. Using a needle and thread, grab the broach with the first edge and make a free broach with a loop. Next, on the second side, pick up the broach between the edge and the first, and pull the thread through. The actions are performed alternately: first on one side, then on the other side, until the canvas runs out. Finally, the thread is tightened so that the parts are connected to each other without a working transition.
Weaving stitch
It is considered the most convenient for processing children's clothing, mittens, and hats. First, you need to insert the needle under the edge loops and walk in the same way in the middle of each loop that follows. The resulting series of stitches may resemble a slithering snake. In the process of creating a seam, it is important to adhere to the principle of the “golden mean”: do not tighten it too much and, on the contrary, leave the thread free.
Some useful tips
The first thing you need to remember is that to connect the parts it is better to use either exactly the same thread, or a sewing thread, but flat and matching in shade. Besides:
- The product must be sewn after it has been washed and dried;
- First, the shoulder seams are connected, then the side seams, and then on the sleeves;
- finishing, as well as stitching in other elements, is done last;
- The working thread should not be too long.
It is important to remember that parts such as a golf collar or cuff are partially sewn on both sides. This will ensure that the seam line is located inside the part.
