The Tarantella dance came to us from Italy, where it is considered the official symbol of the country. Many legends are often associated with this incendiary number. School holiday programs increasingly feature non-standard dances and performances. National dances of the peoples of the world are especially popular. Therefore, the “Tarantella” costume for girls can be useful to any schoolgirl. Sewing a product is not difficult, the main thing is to choose all the elements and materials correctly. Although the dance is basically always the same, the Tarantella carnival costume may vary slightly. Even native Italians do not always agree on the color scheme and other features of the outfit.
What “Tarantella” looks like - a costume for a girl
If we consider the classic women's folk costume for performing Italian dance, it consists of the following elements:
- The skirt is red, fluffy, slightly above the knee length. Most often it is sewn from durable material, but in some interpretations there are also satin and silk products.
- The apron is worn over the skirt. It can be made of transparent, lace or openwork white material. In Italy, plain white fabric is often chosen for an apron.
- Trousers. White pantaloons should be lower than the skirt so that lace ruffles and frills give an original appearance. Ideally, the elastic band of the pantaloons is on the knee.
- Belt. The girl wears a wide black belt around her waist. It starts where the red skirt material ends and ends under the bust. For the belt, you can choose regular material or shiny black fabric.
- Blouse. A white short-sleeve blouse protrudes above the waistband. Ideally, this is a blouse with a puffy collar and a large neckline, but the children's version of the outfit even allows regular T-shirts.
To this day, Italian carnivals always include tarantella acts. The movements and intensity of the dance depend on the region where it is performed. In some areas of the country he is even considered sedate.
How to make a Tarantella outfit - a Halloween costume
Putting together a costume for a fiery Italian dance is not at all difficult. If you don’t have time for sewing, and a competition or performance is very soon, you can use a simplified option:
- As a white blouse, you can take any white blouse. It is advisable to look for a smart blouse with a short sleeve. There are no special restrictions regarding the neck. A collar with buttons or a lace trim on the collar looks good.
- The skirt will still have to be sewn. To do this, you need to take red fabric - satin or dense material at your discretion. From measurements you will need waist size, skirt length. You can take absolutely any skirt pattern; it is better to give preference to loose models.
- We will make the belt from thick black ribbon. We wrap the waist over the blouse tucked into the skirt. We start wrapping from the bottom and reach chest level. The tape needs to be secured at the back.
- Cropped leggings can serve as pantaloons. We adjust them to the length of the skirt. At the bottom we sew massive lace ruffles, preferably multi-layered.
- We will make an apron from lace. You will need a simple pattern in the shape of a semicircle, transfer it to the material. It is better to decorate the edges with ruffles. We leave a small hole at the top to thread the ribbon through to tie the apron.
This completes the main part of the costume. All you have to do is choose comfortable shoes and do a traditional Italian hairstyle with a hairnet.
