All children love ladybugs. The ladybug costume is one of the favorite carnival costumes. It is very easy to sew and looks bright and impressive.
In this article we will look at how easy it is to sew a ladybug costume for boys and girls.
How to make a ladybug costume for a girl
There are many options. You can sew a really complex suit, spend a lot of time and effort, or you can simply sew characteristic details, decorate it beautifully and stop there.
If you consider that this suit will only be worn once, then the second option is quite acceptable.
So, let's look at options for simple costume making.
Option 1.
What do you need:
- Black plain T-shirt.
- Red satin fabric for the skirt and wings.
- Black tulle for the underskirt.
- Black tights.
- Black slippers.
- Black felt.
- Soft wire.
- Headband.
As you understand, our suit will consist of a T-shirt, a skirt and wings attached to the back of the T-shirt.
Manufacturing master class:
- We sew a red skirt - cut out a rectangle and stitch on the side.
- We sew the underskirt from tulle and make it 5 cm longer than the red one.
- We assemble both skirts with an elastic waistband.
- Let's move on to the wings. We make wing blanks from wire - they are slightly elongated in shape.
- We cut out 4 blanks from red fabric in the same shape. We stitch together in pairs from the inside out and turn them inside out. We sew them along the face at a distance of 1 cm from the edge. We insert the wire along the contour, fasten it, and sew up the hole.
- Cut out circles with a diameter of 5-6 cm from black felt.
- We sew them randomly to the skirt and to the wings.
- Attach the wings to the T-shirt. This can be done in two ways: sew at a distance of 5 cm from each other or attach with Velcro.
- We make a headband with antennae for the head. We attach two black chenille wires to the rim, at the end of which we attach red buboes made from threads.
To make the antennae hold tighter, wrap the hoop with black ribbon.
As you can see, sewing a ladybug costume for a girl is very simple.
Option 2.
The skirt and wings can be made of tulle. This option looks very nice. The cut of the skirt here is different - even simpler.
- We cut off a piece of wide elastic equal to the V of the child’s belt and sew it together.
- Cut strips of tulle. Their length is equal to two lengths of the skirt + 5 centimeters for tying.
- We place each strip of fabric under the elastic band and tie it in the center with a knot. This is how we do the whole skirt.
- Sew on black circles.
DIY ladybug costume for a boy
Let's see how easy it is to sew a suit for a boy. Here we will focus on the ladybug’s wings located on the back.
What you need for the costume:
- Black overalls, tracksuit or black tights and black golf.
- Red satin or raincoat fabric.
- Foam rubber.
- Black felt.
Manufacturing:
- We cut out an oval from satin, the length from the child’s neck to the beginning of the legs, make allowances of 1 cm - this will be the lower part of the back.
- The upper part will consist of 2 parts, cut in the shape of petals. Sew these two halves together.
- Sew together the lower and upper parts of the back, leaving a hole for filling with padding polyester.
- Turn it inside out and fill it. This results in a convex back.
- We cut out circles from felt and sew them to the back. Sew a larger semicircle (head) on top. The back is ready.
- You can make a head cap from old black tights and attach 2 wires with thread buboes to them.
Everything is simple and very effective. Your child will be happy to receive such a costume.
