Sew a snail costume with your own hands: pattern, diagrams and description

Children love costumed children's parties. This is understandable, because with their help you can turn into any animal or fairy-tale hero. And children love to stand out and transform themselves.

The task of parents is to help make this dream come true. You can buy a costume in a special carnival costume store, or you can make a snail costume with your own hands.

Our task today is to sew a snail costume.

It is done very simply. You only need to imitate two distinctive details of the image and everyone will understand who you want to represent. These details are the shell and antennae-horns.

There are several ways to make such a costume. The simplest and most impressive way that you simply can’t help but mention is a costume made from wrapping paper. Truly, there are no limits to human imagination. This snail costume for a girl can be made in half an hour. Choose a simple straight beige dress and leggings to match the paper.

Option 1.

All we need:

  • Yellow ribbons;
  • Yellow rim;
  • Two yellow polystyrene foam balls;
  • Kraft wrapping paper;
  • Glue gun.

Costume making master class:

  1. We cut the paper into strips and begin to roll it into a sausage and twist it, periodically gluing it so that it does not unfold.
  2. We twist the finished element into a ring, like a snail shell, and secure each turn with glue.
  3. We cut out a square element from cardboard and attach ribbons to it to carry the structure on the back, like a backpack.
  4. We attach the finished paper “house” to the cardboard.
  5. Cut two more strips of craft paper and screw it in place. Glue a ball to the ends of each antennae.
  6. We attach the antennae to the hoop and the snail costume, the photo of which is presented below, is ready.

There are other ways to sew a snail costume for a child. The only difference is in the different methods of making the shell and horns.

Option 2.

The second method of making shell is from nylon tights and padding polyester.

  1. We cut off the “legs” from the tights and fill them with padding polyester. How many “legs” you will need is up to you to decide.
  2. Twist them, fastening them with a thread or a glue gun.
  3. We sew on the straps, like a backpack.
  4. Buy the headband at the store. Doll eyes too. Attach two wires to the hoop. Wrap it together with the wires with the remains of the tights, cut into strips. Glue the eyes.

Choose your main clothes to match your suit.

Option 3.

The third option is to sew a fabric shell yourself. Keep the entire look in white and beige tones. You can take fabric with glitter. It can be satin, satin, lining fabric or whatever fabric you have.

  1. We cut out a long strip from the fabric folded in half. On one side we make it narrower, on the other wider.
  2. Cut out, leaving seam allowances.
  3. We sew two parts from the wrong side, leaving a hole for filling on the wide side of the workpiece.
  4. Turn it inside out, stuff it with padding polyester and sew up the hole.
  5. We make 2 strips of fabric of the required length and sew them to the “house”.
  6. We make the headband as your imagination dictates. It is desirable that there are balls at the end of the wires. You can take regular small tennis balls and glue them to wire tendrils that have been previously wrapped in fabric along with the hoop. Draw black circles on the balls - the pupils of the snail.

The fourth option is to make a shell from foam rubber.

  1. We twist the foam rubber sheet into a roller shape and secure it with threads or glue.
  2. We twist the roller into the shape of the snail’s “house,” glue it together, and secure it.
  3. We also make horns using foam rubber. Cut square pieces along the length of the horns. On the one hand we make them a little narrower. We insert a wire inside, attach the structure to the hoop and wrap it together with the foam wires with strips of fabric. This will strengthen the structure. We glue small tennis balls to the ends and draw black pupils on them.

In the article, we looked at how to make a snail costume yourself and were convinced that it is quite possible - it will not take much time, will not entail large expenses, but will bring your child a lot of joy and delight.
