What is a biscorn - it is a tiny curved pad that is often used by needlewomen as a pincushion. This very cute, charming product is also used as a Christmas tree toy, keychain, decorative pendant, etc.

The name came to us from the French language. “Biscornue” can be translated as something awkward, crooked, irregular in shape and even funny. However, it is impossible to pass by such a craft calmly. Having seen it, every needlewoman will want to make something similar for herself.

Making biscorn with your own hands is quite easy. You just need to know some subtleties.

Biscornu is divided into 3 types:

  • Classic or standard;
  • Biscornu fragmental;
  • Five-wedge.

In the article we will look at each of these types, and also show biscornu a master class for beginners on making classic biscornu.

Biscornu "classic"

Let's prepare the necessary tools and materials that we will need when making any type of biscorn:

  • Biscornu patterns can be downloaded for free on the Internet.
  • Canvas material for the base of the pillow. It is better to take a hard one, made in Germany (Aida 14). It is quite possible to embroider on it without using a hoop.
  • Floss threads. Take threads made in France. They are of good quality and definitely won't shed.
  • A piece of holofiber or padding polyester.
  • Decorative elements. Unusual buttons, beads, tassels for decorating the corners of the pillow. It depends on what you want to get as a result.

Most often, the classic biscornu is a cross-stitched pillow. It is sewn from two square flaps, sewn in a special way.

Let's look at how to sew a biscorn, we bring to your attention a sewing master class:

  1. We cut out two identical squares from the canvas.
  2. Stepping back approximately 1 cm from the edges, use backstitch stitches to go around the entire perimeter of both squares. The number of stitches on the two squares should be the same. We will need these lines to assemble the biscornu.
  3. Cut the canvas around the perimeter, leaving 6 mm on all sides to the laid line.
  4. We embroider our squares with a cross stitch in accordance with the chosen pattern.
  5. How to sew biscorn?

The main thing in this matter is to correctly fold the parts. We fold them so that the corner of one square rests on the center of the side of the second.

We will also sew in a special way: not the main fabric of the parts, but the laid seams, folding the edges. We sew over the edge. Thanks to this stitching, the pad turns out to be more convex and unusual in shape; it will not need to be turned inside out, since it is immediately stitched from the front sides. So we sew 3 sides of the square. We leave one for filling.

  1. We fill the biscorn with padding polyester and sew up the 4th side.
  2. Our biscornu master class is coming to an end. All that remains is to pull the product in the center.We use buttons or beads for this purpose. If desired, you can decorate the pillow with beads and beads.

Biscornu "fragmental"

These biscornu differ from classic ones in that they consist of more than two stitched parts. The biscorn recipe can always be found on the Internet.

This type is considered more complex. Let's look at how to make fragmentary biscorn below:

  1. We embroider the pattern according to the pattern on 8 identical squares.
  2. Biscornu, how to sew:

First, we sew 4 squares, turning each one - the 1st is sewn to the 2nd, rotated 90°. They usually sew - corner to corner, side to side - only 1 side.

The 3rd square is turned 180° and the top side is stitched to the bottom line of the 2nd square.

The 4th square is turned by 270° and its upper side is stitched to the side of the 1st, and the 1st to the side of the 3rd square.

  1. Having made 2 squares in this way, we proceed to sewing them together:
  2. In biscornu, seams connect the corner of one square and the side of another. We leave 2 cm of the seam unsewn and fill the pad with padding polyester. Sew up the hole.
  3. We tighten the center of the product with a thread and sew 2 buttons on both sides;

As a result of making this type of biscorn, the pillow turns out to be very unusual; the embroidery seems to scroll towards the center, like in a kaleidoscope.

Biscornu “five-wedge”

This is the most complex type of biscornu. How to assemble a biscorn - five-blade? Let's say right away that it is very difficult. Not everyone can do this.

They consist of 15 squares, sewn in 3 rows.

Making biscornu is a very exciting process. Every year it improves, new subspecies appear:

  • “Berlingo” - in production, not square pieces of canvas are used, but rectangular ones, which are assembled in a special way.
  • Biscornu "pendibule" - shaped very similar to a heart, also made from a rectangular embroidered base.
  • The pillow in the shape of a “tulip” looks very interesting.
  • The smallest biscornu is called "Zigugu" and is made from one embroidered square piece of canvas.
  • Biscornu in the form of “candy” is now popular. Used as a Christmas tree decoration.

These cute crafts have found a response in the hearts of needlewomen all over the world. Each such craft is a unique and inimitable product. And if you do it yourself, putting all your skill and sense of taste into the work, the work will bring you real pleasure, and the biscorn will delight you for many years.
