Sew a patchwork Dresden plate with your own hands: pattern, diagrams and description

The Dresden plate is very popular. This is one of the most sought after traditional patchwork designs. For the first time, such patterns began to be used in America, at a time when dishes brought from Germany were very popular. The basis was taken from the patterns on German dishes.

The base is a daisy shape with several petals coming from it. The shape of the leaves themselves can be virtually any. Basically, they are made pointed or straight, in some cases they are even alternated with each other, creating a unique combination of different shapes.

As a rule, suitable templates are used that will fit in size. However, if you couldn’t find a suitable template, you can very easily make it yourself, to specific sizes.

Correctly creating a template for sewing a form

It is necessary to use a large sheet of cardboard, you can also use whatman paper, classic A4 sheets cannot be used, this is important.Drawing must be done using a compass, with its help you need to make a circle whose diameter will be 43 cm, so the length of one petal of the future sketch will be 14.5 cm.

The resulting circle, which was drawn using a compass, must be divided into 4 equal parts, horizontally and vertically. Each part needs to be divided in half, and then again. You will get 16 equal parts in a circle, each part representing one of the petals.

At the ends of each line of all 16 divisions, you need to draw a polygon using a ruler. It will be most convenient to use a ruler 20 cm long. This is necessary in order to mark 20 cm on each line starting from the center of the circle. Thus, each of the lines will be identical to the others. At the resulting points, you need to connect them to each other with straight lines, this way you will get the required polygon.

Next you need to make the middle of the chamomile. To do this you will need a compass again. It needs to be inserted into the same center, and begin to draw a circle with a radius of 5 cm. Thus, the diameter of the middle of the flower will be 10 cm.

After this, you will need to create a pattern for each of the petals. You can use an already created template, one of those that fits a specific project and the requirements of the master.

Note: the size of one full-size petal will be 14.5 cm in length, and the width will be 7 cm at one end, 2 cm at the other end. It is important to take these parameters into account so that the selected templates are placed on the sketch correctly.

If you are going to create in a patchwork style, it is recommended to use a fabric consisting of 18 colors, this is the best option. In this case, 16 shades will be needed for the flower itself, 1 remains for the core of the future chamomile, and 1 remaining shade for the base.

How to sew ready-made blanks

The stitching process is quite simple. First of all, you need to cut out the first petal according to the template, leaving small allowances for the seams, which will be created during the stitching process.

In this way, you need to cut out the fabric for all 15 petals, not forgetting to leave small allowances for the seams. If this is not done, the final result will be pulled and wrinkled, which will completely ruin the appearance.

When all the petals are cut out, before sewing them to the base, they need to be properly shaped, creating small creases at the ends. The shape of the crease depends entirely on what particular shape of the petals is needed. When all the petals are prepared, they can begin to be sewn to the base and to each other.
