A beautiful patchwork kitchen apron will be an excellent gift for any housewife. The innovative technique of patchwork sewing actually came to us from the distant past. A few centuries ago, it was considered fashionable to sew various fabrics into single products. At that time this technique was called patchwork. Almost no store offers things made from scraps. Often these are hand-made masters and needlewomen who do patchwork. Making a patchwork apron with your own hands is not at all difficult. Moreover, this is a great way to use leftover material or old things.

Patchwork is a modern sewing technique that uses small scraps of material. Craftswomen combine fabrics of different textures and colors into single items, forming geometric shapes. This technique is actively used for sewing kitchen potholders, covers for chairs and armchairs, blankets and rugs, rugs and needle beds and much more.
Many craftswomen independently sew amazing bags, sweaters, and coats using the patchwork method. Our great-grandmothers constantly sewed from pieces of fabric so as not to throw away the material. Then things were a curiosity, and it was very difficult to get something worthwhile. Now designers distinguish five types of patchwork:
- Knitted patchwork. The fabric pieces are connected to each other using a non-standard method using a needle and thread. They are combined using knitting needles or special knitting sticks.
- Japanese patchwork technique. Craftswomen create real masterpieces from exquisite, expensive silk. The technique is also used for sewing various figures and souvenirs.
- Crazy method. The idea is to stitch a wide variety of fabrics, regardless of their size, texture, color and shape. This direction is the lot of creative people with developed imagination. Denim is mixed with satin, guipure, lace and cotton, velor and velvet are added. In addition, masters of this method decorate their products with beads, beads, stones, sparkles and other decor.
- Quilting approach. Work is carried out only on a sewing machine. This mainly includes sewing blankets, blankets with batting, and bedspreads. In quilting, only machine stitching is used.
- Classic patchwork. This direction is as simple as possible. Scraps of materials are combined into geometric shapes. For example, in a square, triangle, rectangle. The cut fabric is combined into one product. Whether machine or hand stitching is used, it doesn’t matter.

Step-by-step instructions on how to sew a patchwork kitchen apron, photo
To sew an apron in patchwork style, follow the following step-by-step instructions:
- We print out the pattern of the product. We adjust the dimensions and check the fit. If the pattern fits, cut out all the elements.
- We cut out pockets, two fragments for each side. There will be two of them, therefore there will be eight patterns in total. This will be the inside and outside. We fold two parts inside out. We make a circular seam along the edges of the apron. Four fragments remain. Each of them needs to be turned out and ironed.
- We process the upper cut with bias tape. Bend the seam allowance five millimeters and secure with pins.
- Red trim is applied to the front side. We process the upper part of the pocket.
- We cut out a patchwork apron from two types of material. We place pockets made from the third type of fabric and sew them on.
- From the fourth type of fabric we will cut out flounces in two copies - from the back and the front part. Fold them wrong side out and sew along the top.
- Let's make several notches along the flounce fabric and sew it to the bottom edge of the hem.
- Processing of slices. Bias tape is used.
- Pattern and sewing ties for the neck and waist. For the neck – 1, for the waist – 2 parts.
- We mark the loops on the bodice and do the stitching with a machine or by hand. We thread a ribbon through the loops and tie it in a knot. We proceed in the same way with the ribbon on the belt.
