Old jeans are those things that are likely to be found in every person’s house and in more than one copy. They never go out of fashion, only their models change. This means you probably have the material to create your masterpiece.

Denim fabric is dense, practical, wear-resistant, washes well and can be given a new life.

DIY chair seat made from jeans

For work we will need:

  • Jeans (old);
  • Scissors;
  • Tailor's chalk;
  • Ruler;
  • Foam rubber;
  • Sewing machine.

Before sewing, jeans need to be washed, the seams ripped open, and the waistband cut off. Carefully smooth the resulting pieces of fabric with an iron.

Work order:

  1. Cut out a paper pattern to fit the shape of the chair seat.
  2. Place the stencil on the prepared fabric and mark 3 pieces with seam allowances. Usually one part has dimensions of 40x40 cm (50x50), and the other two are made 10 cm larger.
  3. Decorate the front side of the smaller piece.You can sew an applique on it, you can decorate it with a pocket, or you can sew it from multi-colored pieces of denim using the patchwork technique.
  4. We bend the remaining 2 wide parts and trim them by 1 cm.
  5. We combine the upper part with the lower right sides, put a wide blank on top.
  6. We pin the parts together and stitch them together, leaving a hole for the filler.
  7. Turn out and iron the finished product.
  8. Fill our seat with foam rubber cut to the size of the chair, or insert a ready-made flat pillow inside.

An interesting chair cover can be made from jeans by weaving individual strips. The technique is very simple; you don’t even need a needle and thread.

A cover for a stool made of jeans can also be made using this technique. So, let's get to work:

  1. We rip the jeans at the seams and iron them thoroughly.
  2. Finely divide our trouser legs into long strips of equal width (their width should be equal to twice the width of the finished strip of fabric). Cut it out.
  3. We bend each strip on both sides to the middle and iron it with an iron.
  4. We prepare thick fabric for the base. We turn the stool over onto the fabric, outline its seat with chalk and cut it out.
  5. Then we lay out the base, and begin to lay the prepared strips of fabric on top. We will place them diagonally. It’s better to start from the middle and lay them in a checkerboard pattern.
  6. Glue the edges of the strips to the base using a glue gun. We cut off the excess edges, turning them face down.
  7. We do the edging. Glue a long denim ribbon along the fold line. Fold and glue again. Our product is ready!

If you wish, you can also sew chair covers from old jeans. More often they are used when decorating children's high chairs. The capes are placed on the backs and decorated with various appliqués. They can be changed and washed often. On the back side you can sew a jeans pocket to store brushes and pencils or a zippered pocket. Decorate as your imagination tells you.

Chair covers made from old jeans and armchairs will help update the interior of your room, add originality and save on the purchase of new furniture.

Covers solve several problems at once: they save you money on reupholstering or buying new furniture, they protect the upholstery from pet hair and claws, from dust and dirt.
