Creating a children's costume or outfit for a matinee is a real creative process, which often brings a lot of trouble to parents. Peter Pan is one of my favorite heroes. His adventures captivate the kids, and they often have to look for a unique outfit for holidays in kindergarten or elementary school. A special collar design style is named after the character. Even in our grandmothers’ youth, it was used as a decoration for school uniforms. But even now the detail has not lost its popularity. Fashion designers continue to use a turn-down, flat-lying small collar with rounded edges. It suits a business style, a school blouse or an elegant dress. In recent years, overlay collars have been made based on the model. They can be worn under any item by simply tying them around your neck over your clothes.
DIY Peter Pan costume
Many parents will be interested in learning how to create an outfit for their favorite children's hero with their own hands in literally a matter of hours. For this you will need:
- Prepare the material. It is advisable to sew a suit from fleece so as not to waste time processing seams and edges. The color of the fabric is bright green, grassy. The quantity is two meters, but depends on the age of the child.
- We make a pattern based on a children's T-shirt that fits the child well. The length of the T-shirt increases slightly when transferred to paper. Cut out the back part and set it aside. The pattern is cut into two parts to create shelves. You need to add fifteen centimeters for the smell.
- To make the shirt comfortable, round the neckline and sew all the seams.
- We make the cap sleeves equal to the armhole of rectangles. We cut out teeth on one edge, like the main character of the cartoon series. Sew the sleeves with the cape.
- The hat consists of two triangles. We cut the fabric and sew both elements together. You can make the hat the color of the shirt or use brown fleece. A brightly colored feather is suitable for decoration.
The last step is to belt your shirt and pick up green leggings. As a belt, you can take a regular belt from your mom or dad’s wardrobe.
Peter Pan collar - how to sew
The Peter Pan collar is a wonderful decoration for children's and adults' outfits. To make a pattern, you need to measure the depth and cutout. The upper and lower parts are cut out according to separate layouts. Pre-made bias tape is suitable, but if necessary, you can also cut it out and make it yourself. Next you will need:
- Fold, pin together the top and bottom parts with right sides, grind the ends and flaps on a typewriter.
- Trim the seam allowance in steps to three millimeters, turn the garment right side out and sweep out the piping. Be sure to iron it afterwards.
- For a double-sided collar, the steps are repeated twice, with each part of the collar.
- We combine the two parts temporarily, grinding both edges on the outer bend.
- Now you need to pin the product to the neck. The bias tape is also pinned. The collar is separated by a neckline and bias tape. Sew the collar using a sewing machine.
- Remove the remaining allowance and place marks. We go over the seam allowances with the iron.
- The bias tape is turned on the wrong side. The allowance is bent to the line where the collar is sewn into the product. The ends of the binding are hidden inside. Using hand blind stitches or a sewing machine, the facing is attached to the garment. The gate is finally processed.
