Choosing clothes for young children is a responsible matter. It is important that the items are of high quality, made from natural materials and do not cause inconvenience to the baby while wearing them. Nowadays, stores are literally full of a wide selection of different children's clothing, but to be sure of the quality, it is better to learn how to knit them with your own hands. It's not difficult at all, but it's better to start with the basics. For example, you can very quickly and easily knit baby pants that will be imbued with maternal love and positive energy.
Materials
For work you need to prepare the following materials and tools:
- yarn (80 g) - it is advisable to use threads specifically for children, as they are excellent for delicate skin;
- knitting needles No. 3 (with a sharp tip) - 4 pcs.;
- circular knitting needles No. 3.
Particular attention must be paid to the choice of yarn. The fact is that not all types of thread are suitable for children. Before purchasing them, you need to carefully read the composition.
For example, the use of polyamide, which is based on artificial raw materials, is unacceptable. Polyamide fibers are obtained by processing organic raw materials: oil, coal. Polyamide means nylon, nylon and silicone. Also, yarn with long fibers, such as mohair and angora, is not suitable for small children. It’s just that these long fibers will immediately be in the child’s mouth.
Moreover, mohair is not recommended for use by older children. Although it is a natural material, it pricks and causes discomfort. Lurex yarn has a similar effect.
When choosing yarn for children's pants, you need to be guided by the time of year:
- Winter: cashmere, wool, wool blend.
- Autumn and spring: wool blend.
- Summer: soft pure cotton, cotton combined with linen, blended yarns containing cotton and acrylic.
Knitting pattern
The process of creating knitted states for a child is as follows:
- Take needle number 3 and cast on 40 stitches. This is the future cuff at the bottom of the pants.
- Knit a row according to the “1x1 elastic band” pattern.
- Divide all the stitches in equal numbers onto 4 knitting needles. There should be 10 pieces on each.
- For a quality cuff, it is enough to knit 11 rows.
- Next, continue knitting using the stocking technique. Go through 9 rows and make a yarnover that will widen the leg. Such yarn overs should be made every 8 stitches and every 10 rows. It is better to arrange them in a checkerboard pattern to form a beautiful pattern in the form of holes.
- According to the indicated pattern, knit 35 rows.
- Using the reverse knitting method, walk another 10 rows. At the same time, do not forget about capes.
- The second leg is knitted according to a similar pattern.
- Now we include circular knitting needles in the process and knit 35 rows using the same pattern, making yarn overs.
- In order for the pants to fit well on the child, you need to shape the waist. To do this, knit 1 row, knit 1 and purl 2, and then use a regular 1x1 rib. Only purl the stitches together.
- To make a gusset, you need to lay the product with the groin facing up. A diamond should form from the hole. On one side, lift the loops and knit a square. Moreover, take loops from the other sides of the rhombus.
- Transfer all loops to the wrong side and close from the inside.
This completes the process of creating children's pants. This type of knitting does not take long, but this is a classic pattern for beginners. There are also more complex methods of knitting, which include yarn of different colors and introduce various elements, for example, a braid. But children at such a young age will have no need for this. Knitted pants are suitable for children from birth to 3 months. You can knit a product for older children, but then you will have to stock up on a large amount of yarn.
