The cardigan is becoming an integral part of a woman's wardrobe. It suits any style and can add elegance to an image. A correctly selected cardigan will hide the flaws of a woman’s figure and emphasize her strengths.
In stores you can find a huge number of different models: with and without buttons, looser or fitted, with collars, deep neckline. For those who want to be different from others and show their individuality, a self-knitted cardigan is perfect. The choice of model and color of the future product is limited only by imagination and the availability of the necessary materials.
To knit a cardigan you will need:
- 700 g of yarn (150 gm/50 g): if there are two colors, then 450 g of the main color and 250 of the second color;
- Tunisian hook No. 2.5;
- Buttons.
Cardigan size – M (46).
Back and forearms
Cast on a chain of 236 chain stitches.Insert the hook into the loop of the resulting braid and pull out a new loop. It is important to remember that in the Tunisian pattern you do not need to constantly knit each loop, as in the usual double crochets and single crochets. Each pulled loop should remain on the hook. Continue knitting until the end of the row.
In the second row you need to grab the thread and pull it through 2 loops. Then we pull the thread through 2 loops again: one is the one that was just pulled out, and the second is from the previous row. Then continue to alternate rows: even rows are knitted as the second row, and odd rows are knitted as the third.
When the canvas reaches a height of 40 cm, it is necessary to divide it into a back and shelves. To do this, separate 45 loops for each of the shelves and leave 146 loops in the middle for the back.
The right and left front are knitted in the same way. For armholes on the left and right sides, respectively, close 6 loops. After this, cast off 2 stitches three times in even rows. Continue knitting without decreasing to a height of 61 cm. At this height, in even rows, decrease 2 loops twice. At a height of 65 cm, close off the remaining loops.
For the armholes on the back, bind off 6 loops on each side, then three more times, 2 loops in even rows. At a height of 63 cm, to decorate the neck, close 58 loops in the middle. Knit each part separately. To round in even rows, cast off 2 stitches twice on the inside. After 65 cm from the start of knitting, bind off all loops.
Sleeves
Cast on 55 stitches and knit the same as the rest of the cardigan. In each even row, add 2 loops twice to create a sleeve bevel. After 38 cm from the beginning, close 6 loops on each side. Next, bind off 2 loops in purl rows. After knitting another 20 cm (to a total length of 58 cm), bind off all the loops.
Assembly
To complete the work, knit 22 cm along the bottom with a relief pattern. They can also be used to tie the shelves and sleeves. If there are two colors in the product, then the binding should be done second.
Relief pattern diagram:
- Row 1 – elongated loops, as in the main pattern.
- Row 2 – grab the thread and pull it through 2 loops one by one.
- Row 3 – elongated loops.
- 4th row – 1 chain loop, pull out one loop from two vertical ones, find the corresponding loop located 3 rows below, pull out 4 new loops from it, make a yarn over before each new loop, pull the thread through the resulting 8 loops. Continue the pattern to the end of the row.
- Row 5 – knit all stitches in pairs.
Then repeat the pattern from rows 1 to 5 until the end of knitting.
After completing the knitting, sew in the arm. Tie the finished product with one row of single crochets and crab step. Sew buttons. The cardigan is ready!
Things knitted with the Tunisian pattern have an important feature: they are often twisted. Therefore, after the cardigan has been knitted, it must be thoroughly steamed.
