Semi-patent knitted pattern: diagram, pattern and step-by-step description

Semi-patent knitted pattern

Beginners knitting are familiar with such simple techniques as the patent pattern or the English rib. But what is a semi-patent pattern and what are its main differences?

Features of the semi-patent pattern

The semi-patent pattern, or as it is also called “pearl elastic”, unlike the patent English elastic, has a front and back side. You can determine the wrong side of the pattern by asymmetrical loose loops.

From a practical point of view, semi-patent elastic is well suited for shoulder products, since despite its high elasticity, it is not prone to stretching. The products will not lose their aesthetic appearance during operation and will not be greatly deformed after washing or drying.

It should be taken into account that the yarn consumption when knitting a semi-patent pattern almost doubles compared to a patent pattern. In order to correctly calculate the required amount of yarn, you can knit a sample. The diagram is presented below. It is also recommended to wash the sample.

There are a large number of ways to knit semi-patent elastic. Let's look at the most popular of them.

To start working on any elastic band, you need to cast on an even number of loops on the knitting needles, otherwise the pattern will not be complete.

Scheme of a semi-patent elastic band with a crochet:

  • First row rapport: 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch;
  • Second row repeat: knit 1 stitch, yarn over, slip;
  • Third row rapport: double crochet stitch together with knit stitch, 1 purl stitch.

Next, repeat rows 2 and 3 as many times as necessary.

Scheme of a semi-patent single crochet elastic band:

  • First row rapport: 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch;
  • Second row repeat: knit 1 stitch, purl stitch from the previous row.

Next, repeat rows 1 and 2 the required number of times.

Application

The semi-patent pattern stretches very well, and therefore is suitable for knitting such items as: hats, scarves, snoods, sweaters, cuffs, sportswear. The products are dense, voluminous, but quite elastic.

In addition, it opens up more opportunities for clothing designers and custom knitters. When making products, you or your customer will have the opportunity to choose the appropriate texture. The front side is smoother and symmetrical. The wrong side is more chaotic. If desired, you can combine two textures in one product and create stylish turns. If you carefully handle the seams of the product, you can make it double-sided. This pattern resembles a mosaic: using yarn of different colors on the surface of the product you can knit any patterns and ornaments.

Scarf with semi-patent elastic band

The presented scheme is very simple to implement; any beginner can do it.Despite the simplicity of knitting, the product turns out spectacular.

For knitting you will need: 5.5 mm knitting needles and any bulky yarn with a density of approximately 100g/200m. In order to make the product warmer and more practical, you can use yarn with wool in the composition.

Scarf pattern:

  • Cast on an even number of loops corresponding to the desired length of the product. It is recommended to first make a sample to determine the knitting density.
  • Rapport of the first row: 2 knit stitches, 1 purl stitch, repeat until the end of the row, purl the last 2 stitches.
  • Rapport of the second row: thread at the back, remove the first stitch as a purl, 1 knit stitch in the loop of the bottom row (to make a double loop), 1 purl stitch, repeat until the end of the row, 1 last stitch - purl.

Then repeat the second row until the required width of the product is reached. The described pattern has a high density. To make the scarf easy to tie, do not make it wider than 20 cm.
